I have a friend graduating with a degree in interior design, and I want to give her a gift of a nice tool set. I’m planning on the basics like hammer, screwdriver, laser level, etc, but what might an interior designer need most?
A metal tape measure. A selection of screws and nails. Picture hanging kit. A selection of drywall anchors. Velcro wrap. The camera is a great idea and a must. A briefcase. A portfolio (for her pictures and letters of reference). A step ladder. There are so many more things, that you kind of pick up as you go along (or learn about from your peers) that you add to your toolbox over time, too.
Bedroom design can often be overwhelming to most of us. However, if we break up the design aspect into categories such as: room layout, room theme and room color, just to name a few, we can tackle the small groups. Allow yourself the freedom to take each category one by one and step by step. You will be amazed at how it all comes together. interior designing or jewelery designing
Both of these careers, plus many others, are included in the arts. Any specialized field that you would choose, such as interior design or jewelry design, will require you to build as clientele, just as any other art, be it painting, graphic design, sculpting, etc. Also, if you will be seeking a degree, a well-rounded fine art degree includes theories and principles that will apply to all of the areas of specialization. The nice thing is that you will not be limited to one area either. You certainly would be able to work at a career in interior design while designing jewelry at the same time. I, for example, am a graphic designer, but I also do photography, calligraphy and paint in watercolor. I also draw and airbrush. To me, variety is the spice of life, and with having a career in art, you are able to experiment with all kinds of projects, and everything is a new challenge. Best wishes to you!
