Interior design project question, anyone?

So I have an interior design project and one of the questions is: ‘Outline at least 6 constituents of form and provide examples based on the interiors you have observed’ What in gods name does this mean? The previous question wanted us to identify 5 basic shapes of interiors, so are they related or what?
form follows function. its got to be useable, and look stunning… look at eames era furniture and other design stuff… i have an Atomic Percolator, made in 1948… its a joy of curves, polished aluminium and blended surfaces, and at 60 years old it still has all its original bits… and my wife brews her morning coffee in it.. its shapes which we take for granted, door handles! chairs, implements for use around the home… its a mixture of grace and functionality. the zippo lighter is a fine example… and so are Bang and Olufsen stereo systems…

Looking for interior design advice?

I’m redecorating my bedroom and I’m stumped. I like industrial, gothic, and any kind of quirky avant-garde kind of theme. But at the same time I like floral patterns and pastels and lace and frilly stuff. Can you give me some design tips for mixing these two styles? Maybe you can link me to some cute furniture, room accessories, wall paper, paints, etc? Also keep in mind I have a budget so nothing too expensive.
Gothic and lace go together like bread-n-butter, so no problem there. Brocade, filigree…these work with dark and also vibrant hues (violets, vermilion, glossy black, etc). Floral patterns were a huge part of the Arts and Crafts movement in the late 1800s-early 1900s, especially the work of William Morris and colleagues in England. Look at C.R. Mackintosh as well: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Rennie_Mackintosh His styles blended the floral of Art Nouveau with the linearity and simplicity of the Arts and Crafts style. I think a goth inspired room with Mackintosh style furniture would be the most amazing space in the world. Budget-wise, don’t bother looking for any of CRMs stuff, but you can find similar items or even make your own. DIY is the epitome of goth/industrial, so go for it!

What tool set should be included for interior designer?

I have a friend graduating with a degree in interior design, and I want to give her a gift of a nice tool set. I’m planning on the basics like hammer, screwdriver, laser level, etc, but what might an interior designer need most?
A metal tape measure. A selection of screws and nails. Picture hanging kit. A selection of drywall anchors. Velcro wrap. The camera is a great idea and a must. A briefcase. A portfolio (for her pictures and letters of reference). A step ladder. There are so many more things, that you kind of pick up as you go along (or learn about from your peers) that you add to your toolbox over time, too.
